Dr. Nettie Liburt

Consulting PhD Nutritionist

Dr. Nettie Liburt grew up on eastern Long Island, NY and has been a life-long horseperson. She spent 11 years as a 4-H member of the East End Equestrians, and consequently is a strong advocate of horsemanship, proper horse care and animal welfare. She earned her Master of Science and PhD in Animal Science (Equine Exercise Physiology & Nutrition) from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ studying with Dr.'s McKeever and Malinowski. Her research focused on the effects of age and exercise training on endocrine control of the stress response and glucose metabolism, and has authored or co-authored several scientific articles, including a chapter on feeding and care of the adult and senior horse in the Second Edition of the textbook, Equine Clinical Nutrition, published in 2023. She is currently an independent equine nutritionist who has worked for major feed companies, and is an active member of the Equine Science Society (Board of Directors), the American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition and is a registered Professional Animal Scientist. Nettie and her husband, Randy live on Long Island, NY. Nettie has one horse, a happily spoiled, semi-retired AQHA-registered Appendix gelding named Please Be Quiet (a.k.a. "ET"). Nettie and ET currently enjoy pleasure riding, as ET is retired from formal competition in the adult equitation and hunter rings. ET is happy to watch Nettie take lessons on other horses as long as he still gets treats.
